Dumpster Rental for a Garage Cleanout: Size, Cost & Pro Tips

Summer is prime time to finally reclaim the garage. But between old furniture, broken tools, boxes you haven’t opened in years, and that pile of “I’ll deal with it later,” a garage cleanout produces more debris than most people expect. Renting the right garage cleanout dumpster turns a dreaded weekend into a clean, satisfying one. Here’s how to choose your size, what it costs, and how to load it like a pro.

Why a Roll-Off Dumpster Beats Trips to the Landfill

You could load your truck, drive to the transfer station, unload, and repeat — all weekend. Or you could have a dumpster sitting in your driveway, ready whenever you are. A roll-off dumpster keeps the whole project in one place: toss as you sort, take breaks when you need to, and let us haul it all away when you’re done. No trailer, no dump runs, no back-and-forth.

What Size Dumpster Do You Need for a Garage Cleanout?

Most garage cleanouts fit comfortably in one of our two sizes:

  • 15-yard roll-off dumpster — the right call for a standard one- or two-car garage declutter: boxes, shelving, yard tools, small furniture, and general junk. It includes 2,000 lbs and fits neatly on most driveways. Flat rate: $350 (3-day) or $395 (7-day).
  • 20-yard roll-off dumpster — better if you’re clearing a packed garage plus attic or shed, hauling out bulky furniture, or combining the garage with a broader home cleanout. It includes 3,000 lbs and still fits most driveways. Flat rate: $450 (3-day) or $495 (7-day).

Not sure which way to go? Call and describe what’s in your garage — we’ll recommend a size, and if you fill the first bin, we’ll swap it for an empty one so you can keep going. View our full list of services

What It Costs — and How to Keep It Affordable

Our garage cleanout pricing is flat-rate, so you know the number before we deliver. Your rate covers delivery, pickup, disposal, and your included weight (2,000 lbs on the 15-yard, 3,000 lbs on the 20-yard). Extra weight, if you get there, is just $50 per 1,000 lbs.

For a typical garage, weight is rarely an issue — household junk, cardboard, and furniture are bulky but light. You’ll usually run out of space before you run out of weight, which is exactly why choosing the right size matters more than anything else for keeping costs predictable.

What You Can (and Can’t) Toss From the Garage

Garages tend to collect exactly the kinds of items that need special handling, so keep these out of the bin:

  • Not accepted: old paint and chemicals, motor oil and gasoline, propane tanks, car batteries, tires, and any hazardous materials. Concrete, dirt, rock, and sand are also prohibited.
  • Needs pre-approval: a garage fridge or freezer contains refrigerant and requires pre-approval (a Freon fee applies).
  • Perfect for the dumpster: furniture, shelving, boxes, tools, sporting gear, drywall and wood scraps, and general household junk.

Pro Tips to Load Your Dumpster Like a Champ

A little strategy makes a 15-yard bin hold surprisingly more:

  1. Break it down. Flatten boxes and disassemble shelving and furniture so you’re not throwing away air.
  2. Heavy and flat first. Lay flat, heavy items on the bottom and build up, distributing weight evenly.
  3. Fill the gaps. Tuck small items into the spaces around big ones.
  4. Stay below the rim. Overfilled loads can’t be legally hauled, so keep everything under the top edge.

Garage Cleanout FAQ

How long can I keep the dumpster? Choose a 3-day or 7-day rental. A weekend usually does it, but if you need more time, just ask.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway? No — we place protective boards under the container on every delivery to guard your concrete.

I’m a veteran — is there a discount? Yes. Active and former military and first responders get $25 off; just mention it when you call to book.
